Snow Far Snow Good

Greetings from Narnia! The north of England has well and truly been hit by snow worthy of a Frozen sequel and I have to say – I love it. After a while this kind of weather can just get a bit annoying with delays and cold feet etc, but so far so good as it’s been all Snow Days (two whole days off *happy dances*) and pretty landscapes. Luckily we don’t have anywhere near as much of the white stuff as New York, but it’s still around a foot deep which does not bode well at all with my penchant for ankle boots! I do genuinely love snow though, it always *gruff Yorkshire accent* takes me back t’youth, and reminds me of being small enough to actually fit my whole body in a sledge.

Have you had any snow where you live?

LUSH GOLDEN WONDER: LE FOR CHRISTMAS

A Lush Chimbo best seller for a few years now, this time round I finally caved in to the gold glitter and am so glad I did! It’s not Christmassy in the traditional mistletoe-and-wine-pumpkin-cinnamon-spice way, rather it’s a bit like a hangover bath bomb to refresh you the day after. Think having a bath in Buck’s Fizz or a Mimosa – something citrusy and sparkly like limes champagne. In that sense it’s actually really good for pepping up dark January days despite being part of the xmas range.

All the best bath bombs should be a miniature rave in a bathtub, and this one doesn’t disappoint. Sparkling turquoise water speckled with rainbow ‘presents’? I’ll have me some o’ that! The gold glitter shimmering through it is just enough to add a slight mystique and ‘ooo’ without leaving your bath looking like an iridescent sand pit afterwards. It’s a fine line which some of Lush’s more, let’s say, ‘enthusiastic’, products sometimes struggle to walk, although luckily not this one!

Overall would I repurchase?

I think the biggest (and probably only) downside to this is that it’s only available for a few festive months of the year. When it rolls back in to shops some time in October I’ll be sure to pick up a few to last me through xmas and in to January ( or should that be Ban-uary? Everyone seems to be on a food ban, alcohol ban, shopping ban, party ban – bring back Chrimbo I say).

Garnier Express 2-in-1 Eye Makeup Remover

GARNIER EXPRESS 2-IN-1 EYE MAKEUP REMOVER: £3.49

As a massive fan of the Garnier micellar water I figured the only was up with the eye makeup remover. Unfortunately their Express 2-in-1 Remover isn’t that great – in fact it’s pretty awful. Whereas I can take off my makeup in one swipe by leaving the micellar water on my eyelid for a few seconds, using the same technique with this just leaves with me smudged eyeliner wings down to my chin. It’s very odd in that despite being a liquid it manages to feel very dry, sort of like a dry oil except it’s a dry water? Yeah, I know, ‘dry water’ is an oxymoron if ever I’ve seen one but if you’ve tried a similar product you’ll know what I mean. It just doesn’t feel comfortable or pleasant to use at all.

A makeup remover that doesn’t take my makeup off? No thanks.

C’mon how cute are these? If you combine three of my favourite things – puns, Paperchase and cute drawings – then you know I’ll want them.

.

ASOS Hermione Heeled Sandals: £40.00

To be honest these are very much the definition of ‘do not need and will probably never wear but really really want’. They’re just the perfect shade of metallic pink and gah – this is why I called it a lust list!

.

ASOSxBenefit Rockateur Blush with Swarovski Crystal Brush: £24.50

Not just for Valentine’s but let’s face it, it’s a great gift for your partner or as a treat to yourself for putting up with the cutesy-couple-minefield that is St V’s Day.

I love stars. I love marble. I love lipstick. Seriously what is there not to love.

So wrong but so very very right. The only celebrity couple any of us really care about.

LUSH SO WHITE BATH BOMB: LE FOR CHRISTMAS

Yes, in case you were wondering I am still working my way through my Lush Christmas haul! Every year I end up using the products well in to the New Year and even now I’m only about half way through. Still, you can never have too much Lush right? Right.

So White is a staple Chrimbo favourite that smells of apples and feels like you’re bathing in a latte. If you’re not fortunate enough to have tried this basically your water gets really frothy and soft, almost milky feeling. It sounds weird but is actually lovely. The soft apple scent is soothing but uplifting and isn’t too Christmassy (which is a good job seeing as it’s mid January), although personally I don’t absolutely love it. It’s just a bit too tame for a Snow Fairy gal like me. It’s not an exploding spectacle of colour either although sometimes it’s nice to have a bath that isn’t luminous green and glittery. If you know someone who loves Lush but hates the sugary neon bombs this would be a great Xmas gift (yes folks that’s Christmas 2015 I’m talking about!).

.

Overall would I repurchase?

I’m sure come December this powder-coated little darling will roll it’s way in to my life and bath tub once again!

Clean & Clear Dual Action Moisturiser

image

CLEAN & CLEAR DUAL ACTION MOISTURISER: £3.59

I went through a skincare phase a few months ago where I must have bought about 11 different products in as many days, ranging from low to high end, and this is one of the very few products I’m still using. A surprising great moisturiser for the money, it works well for my combination skin where others have failed.

As a blogger, skincare is probably the hardest thing to write about as it varies so much from person to person. However much I might love or hate something it might be a completely different story for someone else, and hence I try and keep things quite general. If you don’t think this will suit you as a moisturiser, Miss Budget Beauty recommended using a blob as a leave-on spot zapper which works as good as any ‘spot stick’ I’ve tried. As a rule I’d just always say to take any skincare reviews with a pinch of salt.

Overall would I repurchase?

This works great for me and at well under a fiver it’s so worth it.

Mani Monday | Snow Day!

CIATE CHINCHILLA: £9.00

ESSIE PEAK OF CHIC: £9.99

Winter has well and truly hit and so I thought I’d take inspiration from that for this weeks manicure. Chinchilla looks like an overcast sky and so teamed with Peak of Chic I think it looks like it’s snowing on my nails? I probably sound a bit bonkers I know but at least I’m making the most of my winter polishes before the spring pastels kick in!

.

Ciate Chinchilla

Number of coats needed: 2 (first coat is very streaky)

Days gone without chipping: 1

Colour: Stormy overcast grey-y blue. Nicer than it sounds.

Overall score? 2.5/5

.

Essie Peak of Chic

Number of coats needed: 1 shown, would be pretty opaque with 2 or 3

Days gone without chipping: 3

Colour: White and iridescent glitter shreds which look like falling snow – beautiful.

Overall score? 4.5/5
