My Christmas Wishlist

Want to know what I’d love to find under the tree this year? Read on to find out…

SELFRIDGES ASTROLOGICAL FRAGRANCE COLLECTION BAG: £15.00

Okay, hands up – I may have already bought this bag for myself. Oops. It’s just so gorgeous and manages to combine my love of so many things; stars, astrology, bags, perfume… Top marks Selfridges.

MAC LIPSTICK: £15.50 (currently £13.95 at Debenhams)

Would you believe that I, lipstick hoarder extraordinaire, do not own a single MAC lipstick? I can’t quite believe it either! I would love to find either Brave, Ruby Woo or Rebel under the tree this year for a perfect xmas kiss.

LADY GAGA FAME EAU DE PARFUM: £12.97 @ AMAZON

The first of two scents, Lady G’s Fame perfume is just about the only celeb scent I’ve found I actually like. I always alternate between a cheaper ‘day’ perfume and a ‘special’ perfume (see below for my more expensive choice), and this is the perfect everyday autumn/winter scent for me. And at under £15 for 100ml I think it’s amazing value for money.

ASOS CURVE PACK OF THREE RINGS: £6.00

As someone with quite chubby fingers it can be quite a struggle to find rings that fit my little sausage hands! Lucky ASOS Curve comes to the rescue as always with their ring sets – I love this one in particular as it features both rose gold and stars. Love.

THE ANNUAL 2016: £10.00

My music collection is usually a mix of terrible 90s trash and the Heathcliff Live soundtrack (amazing) but I am partial to a bit of dancey/house music, and Ministry of Sound do the absolute best compilation albums. I’ve bought their ‘annual’ for the last few years as it’s just a guaranteed selection of great tracks – perfect for playing at all those super-cool house parties I never have.

VIVIENNE WESTWOOD ASTRID BRACELET: £70.00

The VW Astrid collection has completely stolen my heart this year – it’s simply divine. I am obsessed with stars and Vivienne Westwood is one of my fave brands, so the two combined are a match made in starry heaven.

PAPERCHASE MYSTIC ROSE LETTER RACK: £8.00

Yes, I know, it’s a letter rack, but bear with me here. I may not have many letters to organise (unless you count various takeaway menus), but I do have quite a few makeup palettes. That’s right folks – innovation right there.

VALENTINO DONNA GIFT SET: £69.00

A little pricey, yes, but this is a ‘wishlist’ after all! I smelt this for the first time a couple of months ago and have been completely obsessed ever since. As I am the worlds worst person at describing scents I’ll just tell you what Valentino describe it as: “The fragrance revolves around a contrast of noble, subtle ingredients, with rose essence generously blended with notes of bergamot and iris Pallida, illuminating the fragrance with refined radiance and an impalpable texture. Warm, intense notes of leather blended with patchouli and vanilla express an exquisite, inescapable carnality. Embodying timeless elegance, Valentino Donna is luminous and sensual in equal measure.” Yeah…What they said.

What are you asking Santa for this year?

10 Ways To Feel More Christmassy

Although I do love Christmas I sometimes find that my festive spirit needs a bit of a boost, especially right at the beginning of the season to help me get in to things. Today marks five weeks until the big day so it’s definitely almost time to get your bells jingling!

1. Visit a Christmas market. I’ve been to ones all over Europe and the UK as I just think they’re great fun and usually free to enter. My favourite British one has to be Lincoln, although I think this year we’re going to try York as there’s an Ice Sculpture trail that looks very cool (pun intended).

2. Make yourself a hot chocolate or mulled wine (optional: drink it from a cute Christmas mug like this fab-yule-ous one). Who needs to spend a fiver on a tinsel-spice-eggnog-brandy-latte? (though I’m sure I inevitably will!)

image

3. Two words – fairy lights. Put them in every nook and cranny you can find for some battery-powered festive warmth.

4. Indulge in a couple of festive films – I love the Nativity trio, Home Alone, Love Actually and of course a lil’ bit of Elf.

image

5. Go Christmas shopping. Yes, I know for most people the hell of Christmas shopping is the number one worst thing about the season but I find it quite fun, especially if I remember to start it early enough so I don’t get stressed.

6. It’s not Christmas without a terrible jumper, and snuggling up in a light-up-jingling-atrocity always adds to my festive cheer. ASOS always do some lovely (relatively) classy ones, but really Primark has my heart when it comes to amazingly awful ones.

7. Following on from number five, if you have no idea what to buy people or even what shops to look in Pinterest is your best friend. I have a Christmas board here that I’ve been working on since October, full of gift ideas and decorations I want to buy. If you don’t fancy using it for gift-spo (totally a thing now) I’ve spent hours just browsing the ‘Christmas’ tag for recipes, crafts and home decor ideas.

8. Watch Christmassy YouTube videos. One of my favourite things to do on Wintry December evenings is catch up with ‘vlogmas’, where YouTubers film what they’re up to every day in December. I used to think this sounded a bit boring but it’s actually quite fun to experience someone’s Christmas with them, liking buying the tree, going shopping and decorating the house. I’ve actually been watching some of the vlogmas videos from last year to get me feeling Christmassy! There are also a lot of Christmas tags, tutorials, Q&As and the like which are also really fun and festive to watch.

9. Write lists. Lots of lists. Lists of what you want for Christmas, what you want to buy for other people, what you’re going to cook (or just eat), what decorations you need/want to buy, when you want to go shopping or out with friends, etc. I seem to live my life in lists but I don’t mind as it keeps me organised and I almost find it a bit therapeutic!

10. Listen to some Christmas music, obviously. As much as I love Wham! and Mariah Carey I’ve linked a few of my modern favourites below, though I’m sure you’ll have your own. If I’ve not got a vlogmas or Christmassy YouTube video on in the background while I’m wrapping presents, I’ll have some xmas music on instead. (For extra Chrimbo-points combine this one with any of the above.)

8 Days of Christmas – Destiny’s Child

Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) – Michael Buble

Under The Mistletoe – Justin Bieber

Santa Tell Me – Ariana Grande

Christmas Lights – Coldplay

Santa Baby – Kylie Minogue

Christmas is All Around – Billy Mack (yes the Love Actually one!)

One More Sleep – Leona Lewis

Christmas in Hollis – Run DMC

Gift of the Week  | Soap & Glory The Wheel Deal

SOAP & GLORY THE WHEEL DEAL: £16.00

“FEATURES: SOAP & GLORY FLAKE AWAY BODY POLISH 200ML, SOAP & GLORY THE RIGHTEOUS BUTTER Body Butter 50ML, SOAP & GLORY SUGAR CRUSH Body Buttercream 50ML, SOAP & GLORY SMOOTHIE STAR Body Buttercream 50ML, SOAP & GLORY BUTTER YOURSELF Body Butter 50ML, SOAP & GLORY ORANGEASM BUTTER 50ML”

The six-week Christmas countdown begins today and I’m kicking it off with my first gift of the week. This is such a fabulous gift set that is great value for money, as it includes five mini body butters and an almost full-size (200ml instead of 300ml) scrub. Any regular readers will know how much I love the Sugar Crush and Smoothie Star ranges, but to be honest all of the S&G scents are gorgeous. You could keep this as a gift set to give to one person, or split the products up in to six separate stocking fillers. I haven’t yet decided whether to keep this for myself or give it as a gift, but I know either way whoever gets to use it will love it!

6 Weeks To Go!

Yep, sorry guys but I had to say it – only six weeks today until Chrimbo! Personally the festive season properly starts around now and I am very excited. Christmas to me equals masses of sequins, sparkle, shimmer and more glitter than you can shake a cinnamon stick at. Up until now I’ve only been making lists of various decorations and presents to buy in advance, but six-weeks is the big go-ahead to start putting my planning in to action. Upcoming posts include gift guides, Christmas makeup, home decor and possibly even the odd recipe…

Lush Yog Nog

LUSH YOG NOG: £3.95

Just hear those sleigh bells jingling ring-ting-tingling too… Is this my first Christmas post of 2015? I think it is! If the thought of Chrimbo calling already sends you in to a mild panic, remember that Lush released their festive range on 2nd October nearly a whole three months before! Of course I couldn’t resist popping in and one of the products that immediately caught my eye (and nose) was this Yog Nog bath bomb. I don’t recall it being in store last year so I think it’s new addition, especially as I know I would’ve noticed how seriously amazing this smells. Seriously. It’s like the creamiest, Christmassiest, most delicious bath bomb ever – think caramel and custard creams, or cinder toffee. Actually this is everything I wanted the Cinders bath bomb to be.

Even though the scent pretty much won me over, what really made me fall in love with this bath bomb is that it fizzes away to reveal chunks of moisturising butters that melt in to your bath. I see it as a two-in-one bomb and bath melt, and wow does it leave my skin feeling beautiful.

If you buy one Lush Christmas product this year, make it Yog Nog bath bomb.

The Lush Tag

For today’s post I was inspired to do a tag by this lovely video! I tag @mariabmakeup @va-voomvanity and @bathbombmadness plus anyone else who wants to do it!

What is your favourite Lush product?

As much as I love all of their wonderful bath products, I couldn’t live without Dream Cream. I used to get quite bad eczema on my legs as a child and this is the only thing that completely prevents it, even against more expensive or prescription creams. I’ve lost count of how many tubs I’ve used over the seven-plus years I’ve been using it, and always keep a spare one just in case it runs out! It’s a Lush institution that completely deserves the hype.

.

What is your favourite bath bomb?

Oh god I knew this would be a question! This is so difficult for me as there are so many I love, particularly from the Christmas range – Yog Nog, Golden Wonder, Father Christmas, Twilight, Big Blue…At a push I think I’d have to say Shoot For The Stars is my favourite bath bomb – one of my fave Lush scents combined with ‘galaxy’ water and a star-themed name. Perfection.

.

What is your favourite bubble bar?

Another tough one here! Once again I’ve got to go for a limited edition product in the form of Ultraviolet. It was released specially for Mother’s Day earlier this year and it was deee-vine. Imagine having a bath in Palma Violets and you might start to get an idea. I also love Big Bang from Lush Oxford St and, of course, The Comforter

.

What is your favourite bath melt?

Anyone who’s been to Lush Oxford Street will know that they have a selection of solid bath oils, which I think are going to replace the traditional melts very soon. As much as I love Melting Marshmallow Moment, Shark Infested Custard and Razzle Dazzle, my favourite is Delight. It’s a little ball of marzipan-scented joy covered in silver lustre that covered me and everything I wore in glitter for a solid two days.

.

What is your favourite soap?

Soap is the one thing I’m not particularly keen on in general, but I do like Honey I Washed The Kids (same scent as Shoot For The Stars) and Rockstar.

.

What is your favourite shower gel?

It’s Raining Men, with Snow Fairy coming a close second. I do really want to try the Twilight shower gel though as apparently that’s amazing.

.

What is your favourite limited edition product?

Pretty much all of the products I’ve mentioned are limited edition (sorry!), but I must emphasise how much I love the Lush Christmas range. The majority of my favourite Lush products are xmas exclusives and I always have to stock up as soon as October rolls round.

.

How long have you been a Lushie?

Ever since I started buying Dream Cream all those years ago – it was love at first bath.

My Fave Nude Lipsticks

image
image

(swatches in order: Bourjois Nudist, Revlon Pink Truffle, Topshop Ambition, L’Oreal Toujours Teaberry, Maybelline Galactive Mauve, Rimmel Celestial)

image

(Revlon Sultry)

BOURJOIS ROUGE EDITION VELVET in NUDIST: £8.99

REVLON LIP BUTTER in PINK TRUFFLE: £7.99

TOPSHOP LIP PERFECTOR in AMBITION: £6.00

LOREAL INFALLIBLE in TOUJOURS TEABERRY: £9.99

MAYBELLINE COLOR SENSATIONAL LIPSTICK in GALACTIC MAUVE: £6.99

RIMMEL APOCOLIPS in CELESTIAL: £6.49

REVLON MATTE BALM in SULTRY: £7.99

I probably best start off by saying that my version of ‘nude’ might be a bit different to the typical definition. For some reason I have never been able to get on with the Kylie Jenner/cool-greige lipsticks that are so popular at the moment, and so I rarely buy or wear them. As you can see from the swatches above my favourite nudes are quite pink (although the Bourjois Rouge Edition especially I feel is a lot ‘nudier’ in real life), but I still class them as neutral colours when compared with the neons and purples of the rest of my collection!

Pink Truffle has to be my favourite brown-nude, although Galactive Mauve is just beautiful and is unlike any other lipstick I own. L’Oreal’s Toujours Teaberry really is infallible and even outlasts Bourjois Nudist, which is incredible considering they’re both such fab long-wearing colours. The Topshop Lip Perfector is a complete dupe of the far more expensive Clarins one, and one I love to slick on when I’m having a lazy makeup day. If I had to pick one favourite, I think it would have to be the Revlon Matte Balm in Sultry. I’ve barely gone a week without wearing it since I got it as it’s just the most perfect dark nude for me, more neutral than a pink or red but with a good injection of colour that stops me from looking washed out.
